Scalp Level Trinity United Methodist Church of Windber, Pa. were having problems with intelligibility and a lack of flexibility with their existing sound system. The current needs of the congregation could not be met by the present system, which consisted of a constant voltage amplifier and several ceiling speakers. ATS was contacted by Pastor Art Moffat and trustee Wayne Kaufman to design and install a system that would meet their needs.
Room analysis was done utilizing EASE software. The main seating area presented a challenge in that the ceiling above was arched with a plaster finish. It was necessary to keep the acoustic energy off the ceiling to alleviate unwanted reflections.
An Electro Voice EVI 28 was chosen based
on the EASE data.
Due to ceiling height restrictions an
Electro Voice Fri 2082 was chosen to be the rear fill speaker which
was time aligned with the main speaker.
EASE demonstrated that the alcons ranged
from a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 6.

The direct sound pressure ranged from a minimum of 90db in the extreme rear, to a maximum of 96db near the front of the seating area.

These levels were accomplished with just the EVI 28. The final results were expected to be even better since the delayed Fri 2082 would be incorporated.
Due to the musical content of the services
ATS included a Mackie 1642 VLZ Pro mixer
and microphones by Audio Technica. Wired
microphones included two choir mics, a podium microphone and two handhelds.
Wireless lavier and wireless handheld systems were also included. Equalization
was provided by an Ashly PQX 752 and power amps were by Carver Professional.
The time alignment device between the main speaker and the rear fill
speaker was a Rolls RD 320.
